100 violins to perform together | |
C A Rajasekar’s passion for music is nothing new for he hails from a family of celebrated musicians who are wedded to music. His father Appanna Bhagavathar and grandfather Vedachala Iyer were reputed musicians of Chittoor. His grandfather was adept at playing violin and flute, while his father could play the violin which had a distinctive grace. Rajasekar imbibed the musical spirit from them and was placed under the tutelage of his father for vocal and violin lessons. Rajasekar took to violin and obtained a postgraduate degree in music from the University of Madras. Violin maestro M Chandrasekar channelised his potentials. He forayed into a different genre of music – Western - and learnt Western music from violin wizard V S Narasimhan. He has accompanied several leading artistes and started a school in 2000 - Carva School of Music - which later on became a trust in 2001. Many students are under his stewardship and the 11th edition of the Grand Violin Ensemble for World Peace – featuring 100 violins - is to be held on September 4 at Ashok Nagar, Chennai. The programme will be webcast live
